LEARNING OBJECTIVE

In this care experience, children will explore the history of slime, observe physics in motion and chemical reactions, learn scientific terminology, and communicate what they discovered. Remember, the lesson is meant to be interactive and a conversation with the child. After asking them questions, always pause and wait for their response and reply accordingly.

THE MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:

• 1 to 3 – 6 oz. bottle of glue for each slime or 1/3 cup of glue per slime (you can make up to 3 slimes)

• Bowls or containers for mixing each of the slimes

• Measuring container, teaspoon, and tablespoon

• Spoon for mixing

• Bottle of contact lens solution (needs to have boric acid or sodium borate in its list of ingredients)

• 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of baking soda for each slime

• Water

• Paper towel for clean up

• Food coloring and glitter (optional)

• Lotion and/or shaving cream (optional)

INTRODUCTION

Begin the session by introducing yourself to the child and/or parent. Confirm the care experience that they signed up for and review the materials needed.

Then start your session. To break the ice, ask the child their name, their age, and what their favorite thing to do for fun is or favorite topic in school.

Explain that in this session you will explore the history of slime, learn and see physics in motion, learn about chemical reactions and some scientific terms, and discuss what you discovered together.
